Upgrade or downgrade your plan
Move a hosting service or a server to a bigger or smaller plan, see exactly what it costs before you commit, and know when the change happens.
You can move a hosting service to another plan, or a server to another size, from your client area. Before anything changes you see what the move costs for the rest of the current period and what the new plan costs from then on.
Change a hosting plan
- In your client area, select Services and open the service.
- Select the Upgrade plan tab.
- Select Change plan.
- Pick the plan you want from the list. If that move is not possible for your service, a message says why instead of showing a price.
- Read the cost that appears under the list. It shows what the new plan renews at, what is due now, and any credit you get back.
- Select the button to confirm. It reads Switch when there is nothing to pay. Otherwise it shows the amount due and ends & switch.
Plan changes are only offered for active services. A service that is suspended cannot change plan until it is active again.
How the cost is worked out
The difference between the two plans is charged or credited for the days left in your current billing period only.
- Moving up: you pay the difference for the remaining days. An invoice is raised, and your plan changes as soon as that invoice is paid. Until then nothing about your service changes.
- Moving down: you get the difference for the remaining days back as credit, and the change happens straight away. The credit comes off your next invoice; it is not refunded to your card.
- Nothing to pay: the change happens straight away.
From your next renewal you pay the new plan's price. If a fee applies to the move, it is listed in the cost before you confirm, and the change waits until it is paid, even on a move down.
A change waiting on payment
After you confirm a move up, the Upgrade plan tab shows that your change is waiting on payment of the invoice. From there you can:
- select Pay invoice to pay it now, or
- select Cancel this change if you have changed your mind.
A service can have only one plan change waiting at a time. Pay or cancel the first before asking for another.
Change the size of a server
Servers are managed from the Servers area rather than the Upgrade plan tab.
- Select Servers in the menu and open the server.
- Select Change size. You only see this button when the server can be resized.
- Choose the new size. Smaller disks are not offered, because a disk can only grow.
- Check what is due now and what the server costs from then on.
- Select Change size and confirm. The confirmation repeats the cost and explains what the change means for the running server.
As with hosting, a bigger size is invoiced and the server changes once that invoice is paid. A smaller size changes straight away and the unused part comes back to your account as credit.
If there is no other size for your server, the page says so. Contact support if you need one.
