Change your site's PHP version and settings
Choose the PHP version each website runs, and raise limits such as upload size and memory for one site.
Each website chooses its own PHP version, so one site can move to a newer version while another stays where it is. You can also change a site's PHP limits, such as the largest upload, without touching any other site.
Change the PHP version
- In your control panel, select My sites, then the website.
- Open the Advanced tab.
- On the PHP version card, choose a version from the list.
- Select Switch.
The change takes effect on the server's next cycle. Test your site afterwards: a site on an old version is often there because something it runs needs it.
The list tells the versions apart:
- security fixes only: the version still gets security fixes, but nothing else.
- no security support: the version gets no fixes at all. Move off it.
- first use builds an image (a few minutes): the server has not run this version before, so the first switch takes a few minutes. Later switches to it are quick.
If your site is on a version that is no longer offered, it still appears in the list so you can see where you are.
Good to know: if an old application needs a version older than the list offers, ask us through Support.
Change PHP limits for one site
The PHP settings card on the same tab sets what this site's PHP may do:
- Memory limit: how much memory one request may use.
- Maximum run time: how long one request may run, in seconds.
- Largest upload: the biggest single file a visitor may upload.
- Largest submission: the whole form including uploads. Keep it at or above the upload size.
- Form fields per request: large menus and page builders need more than the default.
- Files per upload: how many files may be sent at once.
- Show errors in the page: on while you build, off in public, because errors can show file paths and sometimes passwords.
Type a value in the boxes you want to change and select Save PHP settings. Leave a box empty to use what the platform and your plan allow.
See and add PHP extensions
The PHP extensions card on the Advanced tab lists what is Already installed and what is Available to switch on. Tick the ones you need and select Save extensions.
The web server in front of PHP
The Application server card chooses how a PHP site is served:
- nginx straight to PHP
- OpenLiteSpeed + LSCache (in the site's container), which reads
.htaccessand keeps LiteSpeed Cache's pages.
Select Switch to change it. Your files and database are not touched.
When a page shows an error
PHP's own error messages are on the Analytics tab, on the PHP errors card. That log is kept outside your website's public folder, so visitors cannot read it.
