Create a mailbox and set up your mail apps

Add an email address on your own domain, then connect it to your phone, Outlook, Thunderbird or Apple Mail.

Each mailbox is one email address on your domain, with its own password and its own storage. You create mailboxes in your control panel, then read them in webmail or in any mail app that speaks IMAP.

Check that email is on for your domain

  1. In your control panel, choose Mailboxes in the menu.
  2. Look for your domain in the list. If it is there, click it and go to the next section.

If your domain is not listed, turn email on for it. The quickest way is from your website:

  1. Choose My sites, then open your website.
  2. Open the Emails tab.
  3. Click Turn on email for your domain.

That button appears when lbreeze hosts your domain's DNS, because receiving mail needs records only your DNS host can publish. If your DNS is somewhere else, the tab offers Host DNS for your domain instead. You can also use the Enable mail on a domain card on the Mailboxes page: type the domain and click Enable mail.

Good to know: Email is often set up together with a new website, so check the list before you turn it on. How many mailboxes you can have depends on your plan; see the plan's page.

Add a mailbox

  1. Choose Mailboxes, then click your domain.
  2. On the Mailboxes tab, find the Add a mailbox card.
  3. In Address, type the part before the @, for example anna.
  4. Leave Storage (MB) empty to use the standard size, or type a size.
  5. Type a Password of 10 or more characters, or leave it empty to have one made for you.
  6. Click Add mailbox.

The mailbox can sign in once the mail server has applied it, usually within a minute. A generated password is shown once only, so copy it before you leave the page.

Settings for any mail app

Setting Value
Username the full email address
Password the mailbox password
Incoming (IMAP) mail.yourdomain, port 993, SSL/TLS
Outgoing (SMTP) mail.yourdomain, port 587, STARTTLS (or port 465, SSL/TLS)

The same password is used for sending and receiving. POP is not offered: mail stays on the server, so every device sees the same folders. These settings are also shown in the Mail app settings card on your domain's page.

Let your devices set themselves up

  • Thunderbird and Outlook find the settings on their own from the email address. This works when lbreeze hosts your domain's DNS, because the records these apps look for are published with your mail.
  • iPhone, iPad or Mac: open the menu beside a mailbox's Manage button, choose Connect a mail app, then click Download the profile. Open the file, tap Install, and type the mailbox password once.

Change a password or remove a mailbox

To set a new password, click Manage beside the mailbox. Type a New password, or tick or generate one and show it once, then click Save. The old password stops working once the mail server has applied the change. We keep a verifier rather than the password, so a lost password cannot be looked up, only replaced.

The menu beside Manage also has Suspend sign-in and Delete mailbox. To delete, you type the address to confirm. Nobody can sign in afterwards and new mail to the address is refused. The messages already in it are kept aside on the mail server; if you create the same address again it starts empty.

Good to know: Mail that would take a mailbox over its storage limit is bounced, so the sender is told it did not arrive. Raise the limit under Manage if a mailbox is filling up.
